What is Redactle?
Redactle presents a Wikipedia article with most of its words hidden. Common connecting words, punctuation and the lengths of the missing words give you a starting point. Submit a word to reveal its matches throughout the article, then use the emerging sentences to identify the subject. The goal is to uncover the title, not every word on the page. The daily puzzle is free to play in a browser without an account.
How to play
- Open the official daily puzzle and close the introductory help when you are ready.
- Look at the hidden title, the first sentence and the lengths of the redacted words for clues to the subject.
- Enter a word and press Enter, or use the purple magnifying-glass button beside the input. Read its hit count and the text it reveals.
- Use those fragments to choose more focused words, checking how each guess changes the article.
- Guess the words in the article's title to solve it. You do not have to reveal the rest of the article.
Do you need to reveal the whole article?
No. Revealing the title is the winning condition. The rest of the article supplies clues: a repeated word or part of a sentence can identify the subject even while most of the text is still hidden. Guesses are unlimited, but the game records how many you use.
What does the hit count tell you?
It shows how many matches your guess reveals in the article. A positive count gives you new text to inspect; a zero means the guess found no matches. Matching can include word forms, so the official instructions describe a root such as run revealing running too. A large count is useful context, not proof that you have found the title.
How is Redactle Junior different?
Junior is a separate, gentler daily puzzle. It starts with three clue words revealed and accepts close synonyms as well as word roots. Choose Junior on the official site if you want more help getting into the topic; solving the main Daily still requires identifying its own hidden title.
