What is Picklechess?
Picklechess adds an army-building stage before the first chess move. In Daily Challenge, the black pieces are already arranged on a five-column, six-row board. Buy your white pieces from the shop and place them on the permitted starting squares. Once setup finishes, play the position with the aim of checkmating in as few moves as possible. The daily screen offers Normal and Hard options.
How to play
- Open Daily Challenge and inspect the black position, available budget and piece prices.
- Select a piece in the shop, then choose a permitted setup square. Include the required king; place pawns in the front row and other pieces in the back row.
- Finish choosing your army within the budget, then wait for the game to show Your turn.
- Select a white piece and choose one of its highlighted legal destinations. Read the move history and turn indicator after moving.
Can you buy several copies of a piece?
Yes, except for the king: the official rules allow as many copies of another piece as you can afford. Check the displayed prices and remaining budget before committing to a setup. Pawns belong in the front row; other pieces go in the back row.
How do pawns differ from standard chess?
Pawns cannot advance two squares. Their promotion choices are limited to piece types you bought during setup, so your shopping choices also affect later pawn options.
Will refreshing keep the current position?
In the tested desktop and mobile sessions, a completed setup and one accepted move remained after a same-page refresh. This was same-browser continuation, not cross-device syncing. The official privacy policy says browser storage holds rejoin tokens; clearing site data removes those local tokens.
