What is Shikaku Grove?

Shikaku Grove is a browser version of the rectangle-partitioning puzzle. Every rectangle must contain exactly one number, and its area must equal that number. Cover the entire grid without overlaps to finish. The daily page offers Gentle, Steady and Deep boards, corresponding to 5 × 5, 7 × 7 and 9 × 9 grids. You can undo a rectangle, erase it or ask for an explained step instead of restarting your whole attempt.

How to play

  1. Choose a daily board size and look at the numbers before drawing any rectangles.
  2. Tap two opposite corners or drag across the cells to place a rectangle. It must contain one number and cover that many cells.
  3. Continue covering the grid without overlapping existing rectangles. Squares are rectangles too.
  4. Undo or erase a move if it blocks another clue. Use Explain a step for a reasoned hint when you need one.

Can a legal rectangle still be the wrong move?

Yes. Matching the area and containing one number satisfies the local rules, but the rectangle may leave no workable space for its neighbors. The game does not reject every locally valid move outside the final solution. Undo or erase a rectangle when later clues reveal a conflict.

Are Gentle, Steady and Deep difficulty ratings?

They identify board sizes: 5 × 5, 7 × 7 and 9 × 9. They are not precise difficulty measurements. A compact board can still require a difficult deduction, while a larger one gives you more relationships to track.

How do touch and keyboard controls differ?

On touchscreens, tap opposite corners or drag to select the rectangle. Larger grid gives narrow-screen cells more room. Keyboard players can move with arrow keys and choose corners with Enter or Space. Copy puzzle link preserves the chosen date and size for sharing.
