What is Letterkin?

Letterkin is a daily word puzzle in which your five answers share one letter count. Repeated letters cost nothing, whether they appear within a word or across several answers. You can tackle the clues in any order, but each accepted word locks permanently, making the choice of vocabulary part of the puzzle. The English browser game is playable without signing in and has no timer.

How to play

  1. Choose any of the five clue cards to select the question you want to answer.
  2. Type a single English word of at least three letters that fits that clue.
  3. Check the New letters preview to see which letters this word would add to your score.
  4. Select Lock answer to submit. An accepted word cannot be changed or used for another clue; invalid answers do not lock or add letters.
  5. Complete all five clues, aiming for a lower count of different letters and comparing your result with the editor's target.

What does the New letters preview count?

It counts different letters that your proposed answer would add to the letters already used by locked answers. Repeating a letter is free, including repetition inside the same word. Look at this preview before locking a synonym: word length and new-letter cost are different things.

Can you change a locked answer?

No. An accepted answer stays locked and cannot be used again for another clue. You can choose which clue to tackle first, so consider the other prompts before committing letters. Invalid answers do not lock the clue or increase the score.

Do you need to race the clock?

No: Letterkin has no timer. Your goal is to finish all five clues with a low count of different letters, not to type quickly. Daily progress is saved in the browser, and the editor's target gives you a score to compare against.
