What is Letrilo?

Letrilo is a free daily word ladder played in your browser. Turn a starting four-letter word into the target by changing exactly one letter per move, keeping the other letters in place. Each step must be accepted by the built-in word list, which includes British English spellings. Aim to finish in as few moves as possible, with the displayed Perfect score giving the shortest route. No account, download or payment was needed to play.

How to play

  1. Read today’s starting word and target, then enter a four-letter word using your keyboard or the on-screen keys.
  2. Change exactly one letter from the last accepted word and submit. Each valid word adds one move.
  3. Continue until you reach the target. Compare your move count with Perfect, or use a hint if you get stuck.

What counts as a valid move?

Change one letter while keeping the other three in their positions. The new four-letter word must appear in Letrilo’s built-in dictionary. A multi-letter change produces a warning instead of a valid ladder step; the first invalid submission warns without using a move, and the next invalid submission costs one.

What does Perfect mean?

Perfect is the shortest route found by the game using breadth-first search. You may take more moves and still reach the target. The daily board also offers hints and a Go back action, with the latter labelled as costing one move.

Does everyone play the same ladder?

Yes. The official About panel states that the daily puzzle is the same for everyone and resets at midnight UK time. Your progress and statistics are stored in this browser, rather than an account.
